Mumbai’s District Planning Committee has approved an outlay of Rs 813.35 crore for the District Annual Plan 2026–27, setting the stage for a wide range of development works across the city. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at the World Trade Centre.
Officials said the approved allocation includes Rs 785.35 crore under the General Plan, Rs 28 crore for the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan and Rs 72,000 for schemes outside the Tribal Sub-Plan area. The draft plan focuses on infrastructure upgrades, basic amenities and local-level projects aimed at enhancing civic facilities and improving quality of life across Mumbai.
Issuing clear directions to implementing agencies, Shinde warned that delays or underutilisation of sanctioned funds would invite action. “Every rupee sanctioned must be spent effectively and within the prescribed timeframe. Development works in Mumbai must reflect international standards,” Shinde said, stressing coordinated execution across departments.
A review of the ongoing 2025–26 financial year revealed that of the Rs 406.42 crore approved under the General Plan and Rs 21.04 crore under the SC Sub-Plan, only Rs 131.16 crore has been utilised so far. Shinde approved fund reallocation to ensure full utilisation before year-end.
The Deputy CM directed the Municipal Corporation to provide clean drinking water and toilet facilities in parks, remove unauthorised stalls, ensure encroachment-free footpaths and set up permanent dog shelters. He also called for mobile toilets in markets, beautification of the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Shivaji Park, and better coordination to reduce road accidents and electricity-related issues.
Under the plan, Rs 598.38 crore has been earmarked for core sectors, Rs 176.97 crore for non-core sectors and Rs 10 crore for innovative schemes. Key allocations include Rs 242.42 crore for health infrastructure, Rs 31.46 crore for education and Rs 3.20 crore for solar energy.
District Collector Aanchal Goyal announced that 2026–27 will mark 100 years of the Mumbai Collector’s Office, with special programmes planned for the centenary year.
