Metro Line 12 Achieves Key Construction Milestone In Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja Corridor

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has achieved a key construction milestone under the Mumbai Metro Line 12 project with the successful launch of the 200th U-girder near Golavali station on the elevated stretch.

The installation marks steady progress on the Phase III corridor, which is designed to strengthen suburban connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. U-girders are precast concrete segments used to support elevated metro tracks, and their placement is a critical step in advancing viaduct construction.

Metro Line 12 spans 23.57 km and will connect Thane to Taloja via Dombivli. The corridor is an extension of Mumbai Metro Line 5, integrating key residential and industrial nodes across the eastern suburbs and adjoining regions. Once operational, the line is expected to ease travel between Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli and Taloja, improving last-mile access and reducing pressure on existing road and rail networks.

The project will feature 19 elevated stations along its alignment, creating a continuous transit link across fast-growing urban clusters. Authorities have indicated that construction work is progressing in phases, with viaduct and station development advancing simultaneously across multiple stretches.

The Line 12 corridor forms part of the broader metro expansion plan aimed at enhancing mass transit infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. By extending connectivity beyond core city areas into rapidly developing suburban belts, the project seeks to support residential growth, industrial expansion and daily commuter movement.

With the 200th U-girder now in place near Golavali, the elevated structure is steadily taking shape, marking another step forward in the region’s ongoing metro network expansion.
