Compensation Rates Finalised For Vadhavan Port Land Acquisition In Palghar

Land acquisition for the proposed Vadhavan Port project in Palghar district has gathered pace, with authorities announcing compensation rates for affected landholders. The project, being jointly developed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Board, is considered a flagship infrastructure initiative of the state and central governments.

According to a statement issued by the Palghar district collectorate, compensation for agricultural land in most villages of Palghar taluka has been fixed at Rs 62.5 lakh per hectare. “For most villages in Palghar taluka, the rate for agricultural land has been fixed at Rs 62.5 lakh per hectare. For non-agricultural land, village-wise rates ranging from Rs 780 to Rs 2,940 per square metre have been declared,’’ the statement said.

In Dahanu taluka, compensation rates are significantly higher for select villages. For Varor, Chinchani and Tanashi, agricultural landowners will receive Rs 1,16,44,106 per hectare, while in Bavde, Kolavali and Vangaon, the rate has been set at Rs 1,22,42,408 per hectare. Certain other villages in Dahanu will receive compensation at Rs 62.5 lakh per hectare.

The rates were finalised following a review meeting chaired by District Collector Dr Indu Rani Jakhar at the district collector’s office. She stated that land acquisition for the road and railway infrastructure required for the port project is being undertaken on a “war footing”. In total, 24 villages have been identified for acquisition, including 14 in Palghar taluka and 10 in Dahanu taluka.

Project-affected persons will be entitled to compensation at double the market value, along with a 100% solatium and an additional 12% interest on the base rate from August 29, 2024. Separate payments will also be made after valuation of structures, trees, wells, borewells and other assets, ensuring comprehensive financial protection for affected landholders.
