In a significant move to promote renewable energy in key maritime assets, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Authority to roll out solar power systems across port infrastructure.
The agreement was formally signed and exchanged in Mumbai by Shri Manas Ranjan Mishra, Deputy General Manager (DGM), representing Solar Energy Corporation of India, and Shri K. Ramesh, Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME), on behalf of Mumbai Port Authority. The MoU underlines a joint commitment to developing energy-efficient and environmentally responsible infrastructure within India’s maritime ecosystem.
As part of the collaboration, solar power installations will be set up across various port premises. These installations are expected to help power operations through clean energy, significantly cutting dependence on conventional electricity sources. By integrating renewable energy into port activities, the initiative aims to lower carbon emissions and enhance overall operational sustainability.
The project is in line with SECI’s broader objective of accelerating clean energy adoption across multiple sectors, including ports, logistics hubs, and other high-energy-consuming public facilities. Over the years, SECI has played a central role in driving India’s renewable energy expansion, facilitating large-scale solar and wind projects nationwide.
This partnership also supports India’s larger sustainability and decarbonisation agenda. By introducing solar infrastructure in critical maritime facilities, the initiative strengthens efforts to transition public infrastructure towards low-carbon growth models. It reflects the government’s ongoing focus on expanding renewable energy deployment in high-consumption sectors and building climate-resilient infrastructure for the future.
