The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started cement concretisation on a 770-metre section of Nepean Sea Road, stretching from Mukesh Chowk to Priyadarshini Park. This initiative forms part of Phase 1 of the city’s cement road programme, aimed at enhancing road durability and minimizing frequent repairs, especially during the monsoon season.
To facilitate the construction, the civic body has obtained a no-objection certificate from the traffic police and implemented temporary diversions along both northbound and southbound lanes. Certain portions of the road have been partially closed, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes and follow traffic instructions during the work.
Civic officials noted that detailed planning has been carried out to ensure the project is executed on schedule. The administration intends to complete the concretisation before the monsoon arrives to avoid delays and limit inconvenience to residents and commuters in the area.
As part of the broader cement road drive across Mumbai, approximately 77% of Phase 1 and 52% of Phase 2 work has been completed, bringing the overall project progress to around 63%. The Nepean Sea Road stretch is considered a priority due to its high traffic volume and coastal location, which makes it particularly susceptible to monsoon-related damage.
The BMC has urged residents and commuters to cooperate during the construction phase. Safety measures, including proper signage, have been deployed at the site to manage traffic flow and reduce disruption. Officials assured that traffic arrangements will remain in place until the work is fully completed, ensuring that commuters can navigate the area safely while the project progresses.
