Navi Mumbai International Airport Introduces DigiYatra For Seamless Passenger Processing

Navi Mumbai International Airport has rolled out the DigiYatra facility at its terminal, nearly two months after commencing commercial flight operations. With this step, the airport has joined the Civil Aviation Ministry’s nationwide DigiYatra expansion programme along with five other airports, the private operator said in a statement on Friday.

The launch ceremony was conducted virtually, and the event was broadcast live within the terminal for passengers present at the airport. To commemorate the occasion, three travellers symbolically passed through the DigiYatra e-gates and performed a ribbon-cutting at the biometric access points.

DigiYatra is an initiative of the Ministry of Civil Aviation aimed at streamlining airport procedures through advanced facial recognition systems. The technology enables contactless and paperless movement of passengers across key checkpoints, including entry gates and security screening areas. By verifying a traveller’s identity using facial biometrics linked to their boarding details, the system seeks to shorten queues and enhance operational efficiency.

According to NMIA, the implementation of DigiYatra is designed to offer a faster and smoother airport experience while maintaining stringent data protection and security standards. The platform incorporates safeguards to ensure that passenger information is handled in compliance with privacy norms.

With the integration of DigiYatra, Navi Mumbai International Airport aligns itself with the government’s broader push toward digital transformation in civil aviation, aimed at improving passenger convenience and modernising airport infrastructure across the country.
