Mumbai Metro Line 12A Cleared: Rs 8,414 Crore Extension To Add 12 Stations Across 18.4 Km Corridor

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the extension of Mumbai Metro Line 12 under a new project titled Mumbai Metro Line 12A, with a sanctioned cost of Rs 8,414 crore. The move is aimed at strengthening connectivity between fast-growing nodes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and easing traffic congestion on key arterial routes.

As reported by The Times of India, the new corridor will improve transport links between Kalyan-Dombivli, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Mumbai. The alignment will run alongside the heavily congested Kalyan-Shilphata Road, a stretch known for daily traffic bottlenecks.

The proposed 18.4-kilometre corridor will branch out from Kalyan Phata, pass through Dahisar Mori, and merge with the existing Metro Line 12 near Khutari village before proceeding towards Taloja. Of the total length, 10.5 kilometres are already under construction. The route will feature 12 elevated stations designed to serve residential and industrial clusters along the belt.

Areas expected to gain the most include Extended Dombivli, Manpada, Katai Naka, Desai Naka, Padalegaon, Kalyan Phata, Gotheghar, Dahisar Mori, Dahisargaon, Kirawali village, Rohinjan and Khutari village. Improved metro access is likely to reduce dependency on road travel and cut commute times for daily passengers.

Authorities are also considering integration with Mumbai Metro Line 14 to create a more seamless transit network across the region.

With this expansion, planners aim to decongest Shilphata Road and provide a faster, more reliable alternative for thousands of commuters travelling between Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
