The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) campus in Navi Mumbai has been awarded the Gold Certification by the CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under its Green Existing Campus Rating System. The recognition highlights NISM’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations and sustainable infrastructure.
The accolade was presented to Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in the presence of Sashi Kishan, Director, and Yogita S. Jadhav, Registrar, NISM. The award was handed over by K.S. Venkatagiri, Executive Director of the CII Green Business Centre.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pandey said, “Sustainability has become integral to institutional development, influencing resilience, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.” He added that the recognition underscores the role of regulatory institutions in setting benchmarks for sustainable practices.
The Gold certification reflects the campus’ performance in water conservation, renewable energy integration, ecological enhancement, and resource management. Water consumption has dropped by 30% thanks to efficient fixtures, while 53% of the campus area is maintained as green cover with over 35 trees per acre, featuring native and drought-tolerant species. Renewable energy is supported through a 670 kWp rooftop solar system, generating roughly 23% of the campus’ annual energy needs. Rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge initiatives ensure full capture and reuse of runoff.
The campus also achieves water circularity by treating and reusing 100% of on-site wastewater for landscaping and flushing, with drip irrigation and pressure-regulated systems improving efficiency. Operational monitoring is enhanced through an integrated Building Management System, covering energy, water, HVAC, and fresh air systems. Low-carbon mobility is promoted through pedestrian pathways and dedicated cycling networks.
Beyond environmental measures, NISM focuses on occupant well-being, offering a gym, swimming pool, yoga and meditation areas, sports facilities, healthcare, and security services. C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman of IGBC, remarked that the campus “demonstrates how sustainability can be embedded into existing infrastructure through structured, metrics-based frameworks.” Venkatagiri noted the award strengthens Maharashtra’s position as a hub for sustainable institutional infrastructure.
The Gold certification establishes the NISM campus as a benchmark for sustainability in public sector and institutional campuses nationwide.
