Ritu Tawde, Mayor of Mumbai, on Friday expressed concern over the delay in the redevelopment of the Siddharth Municipal General Hospital, stating that the slow progress of an important public healthcare project is “unacceptable.”
The mayor visited the site in Goregaon West for a surprise inspection to review the status of the ongoing construction. During the visit, she assessed the work being carried out and instructed civic officials to provide a detailed report on the project’s progress along with a clear timeline for its completion.
The redevelopment project includes the construction of two hospital buildings, each planned to be 11 storeys tall. Officials informed that the structural work for these buildings has currently reached the 10th floor.
In addition to the hospital blocks, the project also includes residential facilities for hospital staff. The staff quarters and residential medical officer quarters, both designed as 21-storey structures, have already reached the 20th floor stage.
Civic authorities said that once the structural framework of the buildings is completed, interior works and finishing may require nearly two more years before the project becomes fully operational.
Tawde emphasised that delays in such infrastructure projects have a direct impact on public healthcare services and affect a large number of residents who rely on municipal hospitals for medical treatment.
