Repair work on the ageing Veravali water tanks in Jogeshwari is set to begin soon after a sanction of Rs 27 crore, aimed at addressing persistent leakage issues that have disrupted water supply in several neighbourhoods. The approval follows sustained efforts by Ravindra Waikar, Member of Parliament from Mumbai North West.
The Veravali tanks, which supply water to areas such as Pratap Nagar, Ramwadi, Shivtekdi, Majasgaon Tekdi and Anand Nagar, have been in a deteriorated condition, leading to irregular supply for residents. Civic officials noted that repairing the leaking structures will significantly stabilise water availability across these localities. In parallel, Waikar has also been advocating for the construction of a new water tank, considering the advanced age of the existing infrastructure.
The decision to move ahead with repairs was finalised during a review meeting held at the P-North ward office of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The meeting covered over 20 civic and infrastructure issues affecting the Jogeshwari assembly segment, with multiple action points identified.
Among other initiatives, the renovation of Shankarwadi Garden has been cleared with an allocation of Rs 1.5 crore. Around 25% of the work has already been completed, and authorities expect the project to be wrapped up within nine months.
To tackle traffic congestion, a consultant has been appointed for a proposed subway at the JVLR signal along the Western Express Highway, modelled on the subway near Metro Cinema. Meanwhile, work on the Nemani Bridge at Maharaj Bhuvan is nearing completion, with approximately 70% progress achieved so far.
Plans to widen the service road between Jogeshwari (East) and Pumphouse will also be fast-tracked through a separate tender. Officials from civic departments, transport agencies and police attended the meeting, where directions were issued to accelerate pending works and address issues such as illegal parking and encroachments.
