NMMC Develops Gavlidev In Ghansoli As Eco-Tourism Hub With Rs 5 Crore Upgrade

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is transforming the scenic Gavlidev area in Ghansoli into an eco-tourism destination through infrastructure works worth over Rs 5 crore. The initiative aims to enhance visitor facilities while preserving the natural landscape of the site.

Civic officials said the project focuses on improving accessibility and amenities without disturbing the area’s ecological character. Work began in December 2023 and is progressing in phases, with completion targeted by June 30.

“The Gavlidev area has immense potential due to its natural surroundings. We are developing it into a well-equipped tourism spot with basic facilities while preserving its scenic beauty,” a senior official from the civic engineering department said.

The development includes a range of visitor-friendly features such as walking trails, stairways, gazebos, portable toilets, stone structures, gabion walls, ground pitching, directional signage, street lighting, and water pipeline systems. These additions are intended to create a safe and accessible environment for tourists while maintaining the area’s natural charm.

The total cost of the project is estimated at around ₹5.29 crore, while administrative approval was granted for approximately Rs 4.33 crore. A private contractor is executing the work in stages.

Spread across nearly 0.995 hectares (around 10,000 sq. metres) and extending over 1.75 kilometres, the project is expected to give a significant push to eco-tourism in the Ghansoli belt.

“Once completed, the Gavlidev site will offer citizens and visitors a new opportunity to experience nature within the city. It will emerge as an important tourist attraction in Navi Mumbai,” the official added.

Welcoming the move, Rajesh Singh said, “This project will not only beautify the area but also create a safe and accessible space for families and tourists. It is a positive step towards promoting local tourism.”

Authorities noted that the initiative is designed to expand recreational spaces while ensuring conservation of the region’s natural environment.
