The much-anticipated April 3 inauguration of Metro Line 9’s first phase between Kashigaon and Dahisar, along with the Phase I launch of Metro Line 2B, the bhoomipujan for the BKC pod taxi project, and the commencement of tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) for the Thane-Borivli tunnel, has been deferred.
Sources confirmed that all scheduled events for April 3 have been cancelled, with new dates expected to be announced shortly. The programmes are likely to take place on April 5 or 6, pending final confirmation from the state leadership.
Senior political figures, who were expected to grace the Mumbai events, are reportedly engaged with critical political meetings in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, necessitating the postponement, sources added.
The 4.5-km stretch of Metro Line 9 between Dahisar and Kashigaon has successfully completed trial runs and obtained key safety clearances. Once operational, commuters from Mira Road will enjoy direct connectivity to Gundavli through seamless integration with Metro Line 7.
The first phase of Metro 9 comprises four stations — Dahisar (East), Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon — and is expected to enhance east-west connectivity for residents of Mira-Bhayandar.
The inauguration was also to feature the opening of the Golden Nest flyover, the Rs 1,016-crore BKC pod taxi project, and the ceremonial launch of TBMs for the 11.8-km Thane-Borivli twin tunnel, projected to reduce travel time to approximately 15 minutes.
Officials emphasized that all projects are ready for operation, and only the revised schedule remains pending.
