A new flyover connecting Palm Beach Road to the Sion-Panvel Highway has been inaugurated in Vashi Sector 17, offering a direct route for commuters travelling towards Pune. The project was launched by Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the area.
Constructed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 18.32 crore, the 290-metre-long and 6.5-metre-wide flyover connects the Palm Beach City Bank junction directly to the highway. The new link eliminates the need for motorists to take longer routes through Sanpada, thereby easing congestion and streamlining vehicular movement.
Civic officials, including Mayor Sujata Patil and Deputy Mayor Dasharath Bhagat, were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Ganesh Naik said, “This connector from Palm Beach Road to the Sion-Panvel Highway is extremely useful for commuters heading towards Pune. It addresses a key gap in Navi Mumbai’s road network, and such infrastructure will continue to improve the city’s connectivity and overall planning.”
An NMMC official highlighted the benefits of the project, stating, “Earlier, motorists had to take a long detour via Sanpada to access the highway. With this 290-metre arm flyover, commuters can now directly join the Sion-Panvel Highway, saving 10 to 15 minutes of travel time and reducing fuel consumption.”
In a notable moment, the first ride on the flyover was undertaken by Vaibhav Thakur using a specially designed two-wheeler for persons with disabilities. He was felicitated by the minister during the ceremony, along with engineers and officials involved in the project.
The flyover is expected to enhance traffic management and strengthen urban infrastructure in Navi Mumbai.
