Navi Mumbai Records Highest-Ever Property Tax Collection Of Rs 876 Crore In FY26

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has achieved a record-breaking property tax collection of Rs 876 crore for the financial year 2025–26, marking its highest annual revenue since inception. The milestone has been attributed to a mix of strict enforcement measures, technology-driven initiatives, and taxpayer-friendly schemes aimed at boosting compliance.

The collections, recorded between April 2025 and March 2026, were driven by a well-planned recovery strategy that included targeted outreach and structured campaigns. A key contributor was the introduction of the Abhay Yojana in March, which offered a 50% waiver on penalty charges for those clearing pending dues in one go. The scheme applied to residential, commercial, and industrial properties, as well as vacant plots, and led to a surge in payments during the final weeks of the financial year.

March alone saw over 28,800 property owners clearing dues amounting to Rs 192.81 crore. To support this last-minute rush, collection centres remained open on weekends and public holidays, ensuring taxpayers could meet deadlines conveniently.

In total, 2,25,576 property owners paid their taxes during the year, reflecting improved participation. Notably, digital adoption played a major role, with 61% of payments made online, while 39% were completed through offline channels. The civic body expanded its digital payment systems, making transactions easier and more accessible.

To further enhance collections, NMMC utilised data analytics to identify defaulters and launched targeted communication campaigns via SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS messaging. An AI-based calling system was also deployed to remind defaulters and encourage timely payments.

Among administrative zones, Nerul recorded the highest collection, followed by Koparkhairane and Ghansoli. Officials said the strong performance reflects better planning, transparency, and sustained engagement with taxpayers.

With property tax being a key revenue source, the record collection is expected to strengthen infrastructure development and improve civic services across Navi Mumbai.
