The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has initiated steps to address encroachments and deteriorating infrastructure following a joint inspection in Sector 25. The visit was carried out by corporator and Women and Child Welfare Committee chairperson Saluja Sutar, along with senior civic official Sunil Kokate to review on-ground conditions and identify pressing issues.
The inspection covered areas beneath the L&T bridge and the nearby railway subway, where authorities observed multiple concerns, including encroachment of public spaces, misuse of infrastructure, and poor road conditions. Local representatives such as Prakash Yevalkar, Sunil Kumar, and Pramod Shinde were also present. Residents pointed out ongoing problems caused by homeless individuals occupying areas under the east–west flyover and inside the subway, particularly during night hours.
Based on these findings, the civic body has proposed several measures to enhance safety and prevent further encroachments. These include installing iron grills along footpaths under the flyover, placing bollards to stop two-wheelers from parking on pedestrian pathways, and increasing the height of fencing around the play area located beneath the bridge.
Officials also noted that protective grills near the western subway had been damaged, allegedly to enable encroachments. Authorities have assured that these structures will be repaired and strengthened to prevent further misuse.
The condition of roads in Sector 25 was also flagged during the inspection. Civic officials have committed to carrying out immediate repairs on pothole-affected stretches, while confirming that long-term upgrades—such as asphalt or cement concrete roads—are planned for completion by September–October 2026.
According to officials, these initiatives are aimed at improving pedestrian safety, ensuring better use of public spaces, and enhancing overall infrastructure in the area.
