Drainage Woes Near Ganpati Mandir Worry Indiranagar Residents Ahead Of Festivities

August 30, 2025: Residents of Indiranagar Ganpati Pada have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of drains near the Ganpati Mandir, warning that waterlogging and broken drain covers are posing a serious threat to public safety.

In a written complaint addressed to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), Siddharam Shivalingappa Sheelwant, Deputy City Chief of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), highlighted that the drains in the locality are severely clogged. As a result, wastewater is reportedly overflowing onto footpaths and roads, creating unhygienic conditions for both residents and visitors. He further noted that many drain covers are either broken or entirely missing, leaving pedestrians—particularly children and the elderly—at significant risk of injury.

The issue has taken on added urgency as a public Ganeshotsav pandal has been erected in the area. With large numbers of devotees expected to visit during the festival, residents fear that the poor drainage system and damaged infrastructure could not only lead to accidents but also heighten the risk of waterborne diseases.

The complaint has called upon the NMMC to act swiftly by cleaning and unclogging the drains, replacing all missing or damaged covers, and implementing adequate safety measures. Failure to address the matter before the festive rush, locals warn, could result in avoidable mishaps and health hazards.

Residents now await decisive action from the civic authorities. Many emphasise that the problem has persisted for months without resolution, and with the festival just around the corner, they hope that urgent repairs and maintenance will be carried out to ensure the safety and well-being of the community
