BMC Invites Bids For Rs 2,200-Crore Malad Bridge And Elevated Road Project

October 1, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated a tender worth Rs 2,200 crore, inviting bids for the construction of a vehicular bridge and an elevated road in Malad, along with a new traffic arm to connect the Mumbai Coastal Road with Marve Road.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar stated that the proposed bridge from Lagoon Road to Infiniti Mall will link Malad West to Malvani, while an elevated road over the Ramchandra nullah, stretching from MDP Road to Ryan International School, will connect the rear of Evershine Nagar to Atharva College.

The project also includes a bridge over the Ramchandra nullah, an additional traffic arm from Charkop junction to Ryan International School, and the widening of Malad-Marve Road by 3.65 metres from Mahakali Nagar Junction up to the nullah near Mith Chowky and Giridhar Park.

Civic officials noted that the cable-stayed bridge from Lagoon Road to Infiniti Mall, estimated at over Rs 1,700 crore, will span 380 metres in length and 36 metres in width, and is expected to alleviate long-standing traffic congestion in Malad. As the construction will affect around 200 mangroves, the BMC has secured approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority. The bridge over Ramchandra nullah is projected to cost approximately Rs 400 crore.

The project has gained significant momentum following interventions by Union Minister and North Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal, who emphasised the importance of these bridges in managing traffic in Mith Chowky and Evershine Nagar, particularly in light of the second phase of the Coastal Road project.

Officials anticipate that, once completed, the new infrastructure will significantly improve connectivity and ease traffic flow in Malad, benefiting both commuters and residents in one of Mumbai’s busiest northern suburbs.
