Mumbai Metro’s Multimodal Integration Project To Boost Connectivity And Sustainable Mobility

October 25, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated a USD 15.5 million project to enhance connectivity across the city through multimodal transport hubs along Metro Lines 4 and 4A. The contract for the project has been awarded to Dev Engineers–PRS Infra JV, with completion expected within 540 days.

The multimodal integration (MMI) initiative aims to streamline travel between metro services, buses, taxis, and non-motorized transport, enabling smoother “door-to-door” connectivity. Engineers will design walkways, parking facilities, and pick-up points to improve passenger safety, comfort, and convenience. As Mumbai’s transport network continues to expand rapidly, the project is designed to ensure efficient transit for thousands of commuters every day.

According to MMRDA officials, multimodal integration plays a key role in promoting public transport use and reducing dependence on private vehicles. The project marks a significant step toward achieving sustainable urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion across India’s largest metropolitan region.

Beyond transportation benefits, the initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities and stimulate local economic growth. The construction phase will generate jobs, while the operational hubs will increase footfall and support small businesses in surrounding areas.

By linking Wadala to Kasarvadavali, the project strengthens connectivity between major residential and commercial corridors, reducing travel time and road congestion. It also aligns with MMRDA’s vision for inclusive and environmentally responsible urban development.

As part of Mumbai’s ongoing metro expansion, the MMI project reinforces the city’s commitment to green, efficient, and accessible transport solutions. Once operational, these multimodal hubs will serve as vital nodes in Mumbai’s growing public transport ecosystem, ensuring a safer and more sustainable travel experience for millions of daily commuters.
