Adani Ports Signs Rs 53,000-Crore MoUs With JNPA To Develop Three Terminals At Vadhavan Port

October 29, 2025: The Gautam Adani-led Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ) Limited has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to develop and maintain critical infrastructure at the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The agreements, collectively worth Rs 53,000 crore, were inked during the ongoing India Maritime Week in Mumbai.

“The Vadhavan port, which will count among the top 10 ports in the world by size from day one, will have nine container terminals. APSEZ has expressed interest in developing three of the terminals and creating other infrastructure,” said JNPA Chairman Unmesh Wagh, who signed the MoUs alongside APSEZ CEO and Whole-time Director Ashwani Gupta. JNPA holds a 76% stake in the port, with the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) owning the remaining share.

According to sources, the first MoU, worth approximately Rs 25,000 crore, involves the development of three cargo terminals, marine service infrastructure, intermodal connectivity, digital systems, and skill development initiatives. The second MoU, valued at ₹26,500 crore, focuses on land reclamation and the construction and maintenance of an offshore protection bund under a public-private partnership model.

Meanwhile, Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled the logo of the upcoming National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat, and released several research reports on green hydrogen, e-fuels, zero-emission trucking, and green port performance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the Maritime Leaders’ Conclave and chair the Global Maritime CEO Forum on Wednesday. The conclave will bring together global maritime leaders, investors, and policymakers to discuss sustainable growth and resilient supply chains under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, aiming to position India as a global maritime power.
