Navi Mumbai To Launch Eight Public EV Charging Stations In First Phase Of Green Mobility Drive

October 31, 2025: In a significant move toward promoting sustainable urban transport, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to operationalise eight public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in its first phase. The initiative, launched under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, aims to make Navi Mumbai an environmentally conscious and pollution-free city.

The project aligns with the central government’s EV policy, which targets 30% electric vehicle penetration by 2030. According to NITI Aayog projections, by 2030, 80% of two- and three-wheelers, 50% of four-wheelers, and 40% of buses are expected to be electric. To support this transition, NMMC has prioritised the creation of a robust EV charging network across the city.

Each charging station requires a minimum of 70 sq. metres, with identified locations including shopping malls, ward offices, parks, community halls, and parking areas. Based on a cluster-based model, every 1 sq. km grid will house six EV charging stations, though five are being set up initially per cluster. In total, 24 clusters with 143 charging points are planned across Navi Mumbai.

In the first phase, four stations will be installed in Zone 1 and four in Zone 2, totaling 48 charging points. The facilities are being established under a public-private partnership (PPP) by M/s Kay Bee Batteries Pvt Ltd, M/s Road Grid India Pvt Ltd, and M/s Delta Electronics India Pvt Ltd, at their own cost. NMMC will earn Rs 4 per kilowatt generated, while an additional Rs 2 crore from the 15th Finance Commission will support air quality improvement in Million Plus Cities.

The selected agencies will also manage lighting, advertising, and maintenance, with a portion of the advertising revenue shared with NMMC. This initiative underscores Navi Mumbai’s commitment to green mobility, energy conservation, and pollution control, positioning it as a model eco-friendly city in Maharashtra.
