Bandra West To Get Public Sports Complex And Civic Upgrades, Says MLA Ashish Shelar

November 07, 2025: Bandra West will soon see the development of a modern, publicly accessible sports complex, local MLA and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced on Thursday. The decision emerged during a review meeting with H West ward officials to assess ongoing and proposed development projects across the area.

According to Dinesh Pallewad, assistant commissioner of H West ward, the facility — modelled on the Andheri Sports Complex — will be built on two playground plots on Shirley Rajan Road, near Carter Road. “The process to acquire the two plots, which have a playground reservation, is ongoing. Within one and a half months, the acquisition process will be done. The design plan will be finalised after acquisition,” Pallewad said.

In a post on X, Shelar stated that the aim is to create an inclusive facility for the community. “Recognising that existing clubs and gymkhanas charge high fees while offering limited access, directives were issued to acquire two plots adjoining Carter Road, with land acquisition expected to be completed within a month. Design and verification processes for the new facility are also being expedited to provide residents with a state-of-the-art sports complex.”

Shelar also addressed drainage inefficiencies caused by the Mumbai Coastal Road and Bandra–Worli Sea Link projects, noting that stormwater drain reconstruction in Carter Road and Gazdar Bandh areas will begin within a month to reduce flooding risks.

The meeting further covered traffic management at Santacruz junction, beautification and repairs around metro stations in Santacruz, Khar, and Bandra, and road concretisation for smoother travel.

Additional upgrades include the reconstruction of Khar’s municipal veterinary hospital, market redevelopment, and improved waste collection and healthcare staffing. Shelar said these measures will ensure “timely delivery of improved infrastructure for H West ward residents.”
