India Emerges As Key Data Centre Hub; Mumbai Among World’s Lowest-Cost Markets

November 11, 2025: India has strengthened its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing data centre investment destinations, with Mumbai ranking among the most cost-efficient global markets for data centre construction, according to the latest Turner & Townsend Data Centre Construction Cost Index 2025.

The report reveals that Mumbai’s data centre construction cost stands at just USD 6.64 per watt, making it the second-lowest globally and placing the city 51st out of 52 international markets assessed.

The ranking measures the cost per watt required to build data centres, where the first position represents the most expensive market and the 52nd the most affordable.

Industry analysts say Mumbai’s competitive construction costs, strategic coastal location, robust connectivity, and expanding renewable energy infrastructure continue to make it a preferred destination for hyperscale and colocation data centre projects.

With growing digitalisation, data consumption, and cloud adoption across sectors, India’s data centre industry is expected to witness accelerated investment momentum, reinforcing Mumbai’s role as a key node in the global digital infrastructure network.
