November 13, 2025: The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) is fast-tracking its ambitious “EduCity Project” near the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), aiming to establish an international education hub in the region. Spanning around 250 acres, with approximately 85% of land already acquired, the project is designed to position Navi Mumbai as a global destination for higher education.
The immediate next phase involves constructing an access road from NH 4 B near Kundevhāl village to the EduCity site, a critical link for students, faculty, and visitors. CIDCO has issued tenders for this road with a budget of Rs 116.5 crore, signalling the commencement of major on-ground work.
The EduCity plan envisages allotting roughly 10 hectares of land to each of the first five participating institutions. Each university is expected to provide a minimum of 30 square metres of space per student and establish international collaborations. Agreements have already been secured with universities from Scotland, England, Australia, the United States (Chicago), and Italy, reflecting the project’s global orientation.
Officials highlight that the initiative aligns with India’s National Education Policy 2020, which encourages world-class education within the country at more accessible costs. The project aims to attract both domestic and international students, boosting the local economy and strengthening Navi Mumbai’s educational profile.
Local stakeholders and residents are closely monitoring the development, as the campus-driven township will also enhance roads, connectivity, and essential services in the surrounding areas. CIDCO has committed to completing the access road and preparatory campus infrastructure promptly, marking a significant step in Navi Mumbai’s urban growth.
Once completed, EduCity is expected to emerge as a transformative education hub, combining global academic standards with modern infrastructure and positioning Navi Mumbai as a leading destination for international learning in India.
