December 4, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Belapur ward after the property owner failed to comply with a notice issued by the A-ward office. The action followed an order from the Additional District Court, Belapur, and was executed under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with oversight from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
According to officials, the notice was earlier served to Umesh Malve, owner of Flat H-101, Plot 36, Kukreja Estate, Sector 11, Belapur, under MRTP Section 53(1A). The notice required the voluntary removal of an unauthorised sheet structure. As no corrective steps were taken, the civic body initiated the demolition earlier this week, clearing the extension that had been constructed without approval.
Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Prashant Nerkar led the on-ground operation, supported by Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale and staff from the Belapur ward office. A team of seven labourers, a gas cutter operator, and other demolition equipment were mobilised for the drive. Police personnel and security guards from the encroachment department were present to ensure the process remained orderly.
Officials noted that similar actions will continue in Belapur ward as part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to curb unauthorised development. The NMMC has been focusing on firm enforcement to maintain planned growth patterns and discourage structures that violate municipal regulations.
The latest action underscores the civic body’s stance on urban governance and its commitment to preventing unlawful expansion in developing areas. The corporation is expected to continue deploying technical, engineering, and enforcement teams across key nodes to address violations and uphold approved development norms.
