Dombivli Set For Major Urban Makeover With Modern Sports Complex, War Memorial And Cultural Upgrades

December 6, 2025: Dombivli is witnessing a significant transformation as Maharashtra pushes forward with large-scale civic, sports, and cultural development projects. At the centre of this renewal is the redevelopment of the Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Sports Complex, which is being executed in phases to equip the city with next-generation athletic infrastructure.

Phase 1 features a new multi-storey sports building spread across 25,000 sq. metres, designed to position Dombivli as a modern sports hub. The facility will house Olympic-standard swimming pools, international-grade indoor arenas, and a 16,000 sq. metre parking structure. The upgraded indoor zone will include arenas for badminton, table tennis, karate, judo, squash, snooker, shooting, gymnastics, and yoga, all designed with contemporary flooring, lighting, and safety systems to support both competitive and community-level training.

Phase 2 will introduce a state-of-the-art outdoor stadium equipped with athletic tracks, professional turf systems, open training areas, and spectator stands. This addition is expected to enable the region to host major tournaments while strengthening the outdoor sports culture across Kalyan-Dombivli.

The transformation is being driven by MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, with support from MIDC, KDMC, and senior state leadership. Together, they aim to redefine Dombivli’s civic, youth, and cultural landscape through strategic, future-ready investments.

Among the flagship initiatives is the Prerna War Memorial, Maharashtra’s first war tribute built by a civic body. The memorial combines modern architecture with patriotic symbolism and features replicas of INS Vinash, the BrahMos missile, a Tejas fighter jet, a historic cannon, and statues representing the three armed forces. Designed by KDMC and Padma Shri Gajanan Mane, it emphasises sustainable materials, energy-efficient planning, and immersive landscaping.

Additionally, the Savitri Bai Phule Auditorium is set for a Rs 15 crore redevelopment. Once complete, it will feature an upgraded stage, advanced acoustics, improved seating, and enhanced amenities, reinforcing its status as a major cultural venue in the region.
