January 3, 2026: Koparkhairane, a key node in Navi Mumbai located along the Channelli–Raparharane stretch near the APMC market, continues to grapple with aging infrastructure and delayed redevelopment, even as the area’s population and civic demands have steadily grown. Residents say redevelopment proposals have remained stalled for nearly two decades, leaving behind deteriorating row houses and crumbling buildings that no longer meet safety or livability standards.
The ward, which spans from the Chakki flyover to Amba Mata Garden and includes busy corridors such as Palm Beach Road and adjoining internal roads, has a mixed demographic profile and an electorate of around 40,000 voters. Despite its strategic location and proximity to commercial hubs, locals argue that civic planning has not kept pace with growth.
Encroachments along major roads and near railway access points have emerged as a major concern, affecting both pedestrian safety and traffic flow. Markets and station areas frequently face congestion due to illegal parking and poor traffic regulation, forcing pedestrians onto already crowded roads. Waste management is another persistent issue. Overflowing dustbins and irregular garbage clearance have created unhygienic conditions in residential pockets.
“Waste management is poor, and dustbins are frequently overflowing, creating unhygienic conditions,” said resident Suresh Gowda (20).
Residents also report frequent water shortages, power outages, sewage overflows and leaking pipelines, problems that worsen during the monsoon. Poor drainage has led to waterlogging in several areas, increasing health risks. The lack of adequate green spaces and recreational areas has further added to concerns about the quality of life, particularly for children and senior citizens.
With civic elections approaching, residents are hopeful that redevelopment, sanitation, traffic management and basic infrastructure will finally move higher on the political agenda. Many believe that sustained pressure from citizens, combined with stronger accountability from elected representatives, is essential to unlock long-pending redevelopment and ensure safer, healthier living conditions in Koparkhairane.
