Mumbai APMC To Remain In Vashi, Redevelopment Planned: CM Devendra Fadnavis

January 14, 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified on Monday that the sprawling Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) at Vashi will not be relocated but will instead undergo a modernisation under a redevelopment plan. Speaking at a BJP election rally in Airoli, Fadnavis urged citizens not to believe rumours suggesting that the wholesale market would be moved to a distant location within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Fadnavis also addressed other major infrastructure and civic projects in Navi Mumbai. He announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) would be named after the late D B Patil, a local PAP leader and “son of the soil,” highlighting that the airport was built on land surrendered by local villagers.

Regarding water infrastructure, Fadnavis noted that the proposed Poshir dam on Navi Mumbai’s outskirts is expected to supply approximately 1,000 million litres per day (MLD), meeting the city’s future water requirements. He also mentioned that Rs 750 crore has been allocated for the expansion of Kalamboli junction to ease congestion at this critical traffic hub, which connects the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Sion-Panvel Highway, Atal Setu, NMIA, JNPA-Panvel Highway, and the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

On transport integration, the chief minister said work on the Virar-Alibaug corridor would soon commence, and the Navi Mumbai and Mumbai Metro corridors would be integrated for seamless travel.

Fadnavis also praised Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, stating that the long-pending conversion of leasehold land to freehold would soon be implemented, granting property ownership rights to leaseholders. He added, “The Laadki Bahini scheme will continue as long as I am the chief minister of the state, and the sisters will be helped to become lakhpati with support of his govt.”

With these announcements, Fadnavis sought to assure citizens that key civic, infrastructure, and social initiatives in Navi Mumbai would move forward while addressing concerns about relocation and development projects.
