A viral social media video highlighting broken and exposed gutter covers along Juhu Tara Road has reignited concerns over civic maintenance in Mumbai. The footage, posted on X by user Sachin Patankar, shows several damaged drain covers scattered across a stretch of the busy road, creating potential hazards for both pedestrians and motorists.
In the video, at least four to five gutter sections appear cracked or missing, leaving open gaps along the carriageway. Patankar questioned why corrective action had not been initiated despite what he described as a visible and long-standing problem. He also raised concerns about accountability in the event of an accident caused by the damaged infrastructure. Additionally, he claimed that similar issues persist in Santacruz East, where he resides, alleging that complaints regarding broken gutters and related civic shortcomings have gone unresolved for months.
In his post, Patankar wrote: “This is the situation of Juhu Tara Road. Why Bmc officer not take any action? If any accident happened, who is responsible? Why do we pay tax ? In my area, also Santacruz East same for the last 6 months follow-up, but still no action.”
Responding to the complaint, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said it regretted the inconvenience caused and had informed officials of the H/West ward (HE ward) to inspect the site and take necessary measures. The civic body assured that appropriate action would follow.
However, Patankar replied that similar assurances had been given in the past without visible repairs on the ground. Local residents are now awaiting swift intervention to prevent potential mishaps and restore basic road safety standards along the affected stretch.
