As anticipation builds for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between India and England on March 5, authorities have announced extended operations on Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) to facilitate seamless travel for fans attending the high-stakes clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
The match, scheduled to begin at 7 pm, is expected to attract large crowds to South Mumbai, particularly around Churchgate and Marine Drive. With significant footfall anticipated, traffic congestion on city roads and suburban railway networks is likely. To ease commuting pressure, Metro Line-3 will run additional services in both directions through the day and late into the night.
The 33.5-km Aqua Line corridor connects Cuffe Parade to Aarey Colony (JVLR) and covers 27 stations across key commercial and residential hubs. Stations such as Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan, Hutatma Chowk and CSMT are located within convenient reach of the stadium, making the underground metro a practical and air-conditioned alternative to road and rail travel. Commuters from areas including Aarey, SEEPZ, airport zones, Worli, BKC and Dadar can avoid overcrowded suburban lines by opting for the metro.
A major relief for spectators is the late-night schedule. The final train from Churchgate station, heading towards Aarey and Cuffe Parade, will depart at 11:59 pm on match day. This extended timing ensures fans can comfortably leave the stadium after the game and return home without the stress of limited transport options.
Officials have advised commuters to check live updates through official metro platforms, plan journeys in advance and reach early to avoid last-minute rush. The move reflects Mumbai’s emphasis on organised public transport arrangements during major sporting events.
“Enjoy the match. Travel safe!” the public notice concludes, reinforcing both the celebratory mood and commuter safety focus surrounding the much-awaited semi-final showdown.
