From Bollywood Debut To Business Success: The Cricketer’s Son Who Played his father in ‘83’

India’s historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final once again reminded fans of the country’s rich cricketing legacy. Decades earlier, India had created history by winning the 1983 Cricket World Cup for the first time, a moment that remains one of the most celebrated milestones in Indian cricket. Many players from that iconic team continue to inspire fans even today. Among them is former cricketer Sandeep Patil—whose story found a unique cinematic connection through his son, Chirag Patil.

Interestingly, while Chirag grew up in a cricketing environment because of his father’s career, he never pursued the sport professionally. Instead, he carved out his own path in the entertainment industry and eventually portrayed his father on screen in the sports drama 83.

Born on March 10, 1987, in Mumbai, Chirag Patil spent his early years surrounded by stories and memories of cricket. However, his interests gradually led him toward a different profession. After completing his education, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management before pursuing a career in acting.

Chirag started his acting journey in 2011 with the Marathi film Rada Rocks. In the same year, he entered Bollywood with the film Chargesheet directed by legendary filmmaker Dev Anand. Over the years, he appeared in several projects across both Hindi and Marathi cinema, steadily building a presence in the industry.

A defining moment in his career came with the film 83, which starred Ranveer Singh in the lead role. In the movie, Chirag portrayed his father Sandeep Patil, recreating the journey of the 1983 World Cup-winning team. Despite never playing professional cricket himself, he put in significant effort to authentically represent his father’s character.

Apart from acting, Chirag Patil is also involved in business ventures. He founded RCSP Hotels & Resorts and operates The Farmhouse, a boutique lakefront resort located in Karjat.

Balancing cinema and entrepreneurship, Chirag Patil continues to build a unique identity—one that connects cricketing heritage with the worlds of film and hospitality.
