The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has announced a budget of Rs 4,206.87 crore for the financial year 2026–27, outlining plans to strengthen infrastructure, expand healthcare services and promote sustainable urban development in the fast-growing region of Vasai-Virar.
The budget was presented on Monday by Municipal Commissioner Manojkumar Suryavanshi, with a significant portion of the funds earmarked for infrastructure development to address the needs of the expanding city.
A major share of the budget—Rs 1,792.07 crore—has been allocated for construction-related projects. These include the concretisation of 13 key roads across the city as well as the development of a 38-kilometre ring road project. The ring road is expected to help ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between various parts of the urban area, which has witnessed rapid population growth in recent years.
In addition to transport infrastructure, the civic body has also prioritised healthcare expansion. As part of this initiative, the corporation plans to build a 400-bed multi-speciality hospital at Achole to strengthen medical facilities in the region. The VVMC also intends to increase the number of Arogyavardhini health centres across the city to ensure easier access to healthcare services for residents.
Water supply and sanitation have also received considerable attention in the new budget. The civic body has proposed the construction of additional water reservoirs under the AMRUT 2.0 programme to improve water distribution. At the same time, the underground sewerage network will be expanded to improve sanitation and support the city’s growing population.
Apart from core civic infrastructure, the budget outlines several new initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. These include plans to develop themed recreational spaces, as well as a dedicated park for persons with disabilities, referred to as a divyang park. Another proposal is the creation of a Constitution Park that will feature a replica of India’s Parliament building.
The civic body has also proposed establishing specialised villages to promote local economic activities. These include initiatives to encourage flower cultivation and support the fishing community, both of which play an important role in the local economy.
Environmental sustainability is another key focus area in the budget. The corporation has proposed making the installation of solar panels mandatory for municipal buildings in an effort to promote the use of renewable energy. In addition, residents will be encouraged to adopt rainwater harvesting through financial incentives. Under the scheme, subsidies of up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided to those who install rainwater harvesting systems.
The budget also highlights plans to strengthen sports infrastructure in the city. The corporation intends to set up an international-standard cricket training centre at Chandansar and develop a sports complex at Bolinj to encourage sporting activities among residents.
In terms of financial relief for taxpayers, the civic body will continue its existing incentives. Property owners who choose to pay five years of property tax in advance will receive a 15% rebate. Additionally, widows of freedom fighters and ex-servicemen will continue to receive a 100% waiver on property tax.
With this budget, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation aims to balance infrastructure growth, social development and environmental sustainability while addressing the needs of its rapidly expanding urban population.
