Policing in Mumbai is set for a significant upgrade, with plans to add four new police stations and 1,448 personnel to address the challenges posed by the city’s growing population. The move will increase the total number of police stations from 92 to 96, aiming to enhance response time and improve jurisdictional efficiency.
The Government of Maharashtra approved the new police stations in December 2025. These will be located in Maharashtra Nagar, Golibar, Madh Marve, and Asalpha—areas witnessing rapid urbanisation and rising population density. Officials indicated that the expansion is part of a wider strategy to strengthen the city’s security framework and ensure more effective policing.
The proposed stations are strategically planned across both eastern and western suburban corridors, including key localities such as Malwani and Vakola. This distribution is expected to improve area coverage and streamline jurisdiction management, particularly in densely populated neighbourhoods.
Each of the new police stations will be staffed with approximately 362 personnel and will operate under newly created administrative zones. Dedicated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) divisions will also be introduced to enhance supervision and coordination. Authorities believe that the additional manpower will help reduce the workload on existing staff and improve the handling of crime, emergencies, and routine law enforcement duties.
The expansion aligns with ongoing modernisation initiatives within the city’s police force. Earlier this year, a new two-storeyed Parksite Police Station was inaugurated, reflecting efforts to upgrade infrastructure and facilities.
Officials added that the broader restructuring plan includes creating new administrative zones and strengthening senior-level oversight to make policing more efficient and responsive as Mumbai continues to expand.
