The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has introduced a discounted fare scheme for school students on Mumbai Metro Line 3, aiming to make travel more affordable while promoting digital ticketing. The benefit applies to students up to Class 12 and came into effect on April 8, 2026.
Under the new initiative, eligible students can avail a 25% fare reduction on select travel passes for the Aqua Line, Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor. The scheme is intended to ease commuting costs for young passengers while encouraging the use of contactless payment systems.
According to the official announcement, the discounted fares do not apply to single-journey tickets or tokens. Instead, they are linked exclusively to the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), reinforcing the push towards digital and cashless commuting. The concession is available on 45-trip and 60-trip passes, both of which remain valid for 30 days from the date of activation.
“The initiative aims to make travel more affordable, while encouraging the adoption of contactless and digital solutions,” the MMRC stated.
Spanning 33.5 km, the Aqua Line is a key addition to Mumbai’s urban transport network, featuring 27 stations. It connects Cuffe Parade in the south to Aarey JVLR in the northern suburbs, improving access across major residential and commercial zones. Key locations along the route include the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai International Airport, and Goregaon–Aarey.
The announcement follows a major operational milestone for the corridor. Since its phased launch beginning in October 2024 and full completion in late 2025, the line has recorded ridership of over 4 crore passengers. With targeted concessions for students, authorities expect further growth in daily usage and greater adoption among younger commuters.
