Infra Push In Panvel: Civic Body Sanctions Projects, Delays Encroachment Decision

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a range of infrastructure, healthcare, and civic initiatives aimed at strengthening urban services, while postponing a key proposal related to action against encroachments.

The decisions were taken during a general body meeting held on Friday at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Auditorium. The session was chaired by Mayor Nitin Patil and attended by Deputy Mayor Pramila Patil, Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, along with corporators and senior officials.

Among the key approvals was a plan to install decorative electrical lighting across roads, public buildings, and monuments during festivals and civic events, on a rental basis for three years. The civic body also cleared the construction of a stormwater drain in New Panvel (East), Sector 1, Road No. 4, and sanctioned an annual programme for plantation and maintenance of trees across the city.

In a significant infrastructure boost, PMC approved repairs to electromechanical and pumping systems at the 14 MLD sewage treatment plant on Bandar Road. Road strengthening work in Kharghar’s Sector 36—from the main road to Swapnapurti Housing Complex and Valley Shilp—also received the green light.

To address waterlogging, the corporation sanctioned the hiring and operation of pumps across wards A, B, C, and D for two years. On the healthcare front, it approved installation of medical gas pipeline systems for dialysis centres at urban primary health centres in New Panvel and Kharghar, along with permission to float e-tenders.

Additional approvals included the upgrade and maintenance of the auditorium’s central air-conditioning system and a rehabilitation plan for slum residents at Lokmanya Nagar, Maldhakka.

However, a proposal to invite tenders for removing encroachments and unauthorised constructions was deferred. Officials said the approved measures are intended to enhance civic infrastructure and public services across Panvel.
