Inside Remo D’Souza’s Mumbai Home ‘Sabr’: A Blend Of Minimalism, Colour & Multi-Faith Design

Choreographer-filmmaker Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle D’Souza recently opened the doors to their Mumbai residence, ‘Sabr’, offering a glimpse into a home that combines contemporary design with strong spiritual influences. The tour, shared by Curly Tales on YouTube on April 26, highlights both their personal lifestyle and evolving design choices.

The couple describe their home as a space where family life, faith and their love for pets coexist seamlessly. The residence is divided into two main zones—a formal living area and a more relaxed den. The main hall features neutral-toned grey sofas, vibrant artwork and a transparent partition that connects to the dining space, creating an open and fluid layout.

The dining area is designed with a mirrored wall, a marble-top table, wooden flooring and a modern crystal chandelier, adding a touch of sophistication. In contrast, the TV room reflects a more playful aesthetic. One of the few areas where Lizelle introduced bold colours, it includes Versace cushions, blue-toned walls, bright artwork, ambient lighting, linen drapes, wainscoting and French windows that allow ample natural light.

Lizelle shared that designing the home involved considerable experimentation, as she took the lead on interiors. Given Remo’s preference for understated tones and minimal clutter, the overall design follows a minimalist approach, with selective bursts of colour.

A key highlight of the home is its spiritual character, reflecting the couple’s multi-faith beliefs. The space features a statue of Mother Mary alongside two temples—one indoors dedicated to Lord Shiva and another in the foyer devoted to Lord Ganesha. According to Lizelle, the temple area was conceptualised first, with a Shivling placed in the northeast corner even before the rest of the house was planned.

The temple also houses a Shivling containing a rare Shaligram, described by the couple as the world’s smallest Shivling. A small waterfall feature enhances the serene setting, which they say once attracted a snake—an experience Lizelle interpreted as a sign of divine presence.

Through ‘Sabr’, the couple present a home that balances design, spirituality and personal expression.
