Coastal Road Project To Ease Traffic Burden In Western Suburbs, Says Sanjay Upadhyay After CM’s Site Visit

The ongoing Mumbai Coastal Road project received a boost on Sunday after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inspected construction work at Sector 8 in Charkop. The visit has raised expectations among residents of Mumbai’s western suburbs, with local leaders expressing confidence that the project will help address long-standing traffic challenges.

Speaking after the inspection, Sanjay Upadhyay described the Chief Minister’s visit as positive news for residents of Borivali and neighbouring areas. He said the inspection is likely to accelerate work on the Coastal Road stretch connecting Bandra and Gorai and provide renewed momentum to the project.

According to Upadhyay, traffic congestion on the Western Express Highway continues to be a major concern for daily commuters. He noted that motorists often spend close to two hours navigating the heavily burdened corridor, which serves as one of Mumbai’s primary north-south transport routes.

“Today, because of the load on the Western Express Highway, people have to face traffic problems for nearly two hours,” he said.

He added that the completion of the Coastal Road is expected to significantly improve travel conditions for residents across the western suburbs.

“After the construction of this Coastal Road, the people of the western suburbs will get a breath of relief. We will be able to reach Nariman Point in 45 minutes,” Upadhyay said.

He also praised the leadership of Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Fadnavis for prioritising infrastructure development.

“I would like to commend the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. There is no compromise on the path of development,” he said.

During the site review, Fadnavis stated that nearly 60% of Mumbai’s traffic currently depends on the Western Express Highway. He said the proposed signal-free corridor from Nariman Point to Bhayandar is being developed to reduce pressure on the route and improve connectivity across the city.

The Chief Minister indicated that the entire project is targeted for completion by October-November or December 2028, paving the way for faster and more efficient travel across Mumbai’s western coastline.
