MHADA Partners MahaTennis Foundation To Develop World-Class Tennis Centre In Andheri

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has expanded its focus beyond housing by partnering with MahaTennis Foundation to create a world-class tennis facility in Mumbai. The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop modern tennis infrastructure in the city, aimed at nurturing future sporting talent from Maharashtra.

The project will be established on approximately 8,000 square metres (around two acres) of land in the Kolekalyan area of Andheri. The facility will include international-standard tennis courts, player training centres, tournament-hosting infrastructure, and other advanced sports amenities. The agreement was signed in the presence of Sanjeev Jaiswal.

Following approval from the state government, the land will be made available to MahaTennis Foundation under a joint venture arrangement for a period of 30 years. The project aims to provide aspiring players with access to professional coaching and high-quality training infrastructure within Mumbai.

The proposed development will involve a total investment of Rs 15 crore. MHADA will contribute Rs 10 crore, while MahaTennis Foundation will invest Rs 5 crore. The initiative is expected to create opportunities for young athletes to compete and train at national and international standards.

Under the terms of the agreement, ownership of the land and all infrastructure developed on it will remain with MHADA. The authority will retain full rights and control over the property, and the land cannot be transferred or leased to any third party.

One of the key highlights of the project is its focus on grassroots development. Every year, 20 students will receive free professional tennis training. In addition, training facilities will be made available to MHADA employees, state government staff and their children.

Officials believe the project will strengthen Maharashtra’s sports ecosystem and provide a platform for nurturing the next generation of competitive tennis players while bringing world-class sporting infrastructure to Mumbai.
