Konkan Railway Eyes Overseas Expansion With Planned Bids In Dubai, Israel & Argentina

Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) is preparing to strengthen its international presence by pursuing railway and infrastructure projects in Dubai, Israel and Argentina. The public sector undertaking is expected to submit bids for major assignments in these markets as part of its strategy to expand operations beyond India and create new revenue opportunities.

The move comes as KRCL builds on its growing overseas portfolio. The corporation is already involved in international infrastructure work through its role in preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Kathmandu-Raxaul railway corridor connecting Nepal and India.

Known for executing complex railway projects across challenging terrain, KRCL is now looking to leverage its expertise in railway engineering, bridge construction, tunnelling and project management to compete for global contracts. Company officials believe its experience in delivering technically demanding projects gives it a strong foundation to participate in international tenders.

The planned bids for projects linked to the Dubai Metro, as well as opportunities in Argentina and Israel, mark a significant step in the corporation’s efforts to diversify its business portfolio and reduce dependence on domestic projects.

Managing Director Santosh Jha said the organisation is simultaneously focusing on improving its financial position. “We are trying our best to boost the revenue of KRCL. We have already cleared most of the outstanding loans from previous years, and the remaining debt will also be repaid in full in the near future,” he said.

Industry observers note that securing international contracts could enhance KRCL’s market position, generate additional business opportunities and strengthen its financial performance over the long term. The corporation’s involvement in the Kathmandu-Raxaul railway DPR has already demonstrated its capability to contribute to cross-border infrastructure development.

If successful in winning projects in Dubai, Israel and Argentina, KRCL could significantly expand its global footprint while showcasing Indian railway engineering expertise on the international stage. The overseas push is also aligned with the corporation’s broader long-term growth strategy and efforts to build a more diversified project pipeline.
