Construction of the crucial connector linking the Atal Setu with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is progressing rapidly, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) targeting completion of the project by February 2027.
The upcoming corridor is expected to serve as a vital missing link in the region’s transport network, providing motorists with a faster and uninterrupted route between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. According to project officials, substantial progress has already been achieved across key construction components.

Foundation work has been completed at 143 of the 176 designated locations along the alignment. Construction of supporting piers has also advanced significantly, with 141 piers already erected and 88 fitted with pier caps. Work on the elevated structure is moving ahead steadily, with 653 of the 830 precast girders required for the project already completed.

Simultaneously, supporting infrastructure works are underway in the Palaspe area of Panvel, where slip roads and service roads are being widened to improve traffic circulation and facilitate smoother connectivity once the corridor becomes operational.
The 7.35-kilometre, six-lane connector will establish a direct connection between Atal Setu and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway via Chirle and Palaspe in Navi Mumbai. The project is expected to significantly enhance regional mobility, particularly in view of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, located near Chirle.

To ensure seamless integration with the existing road network, two elevated corridors are being developed at Chirle and Palaspe. These structures will connect the new link road with the JNPT Highway, creating a continuous and high-capacity transport corridor across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
MMRDA believes the project will substantially reduce travel times by allowing vehicles to move directly from Atal Setu onto the Mumbai-Pune Expressway without encountering traffic signals or major bottlenecks.

“This connector will enable Mumbaikars to access the Mumbai-Pune Expressway without any signal interruptions, creating a faster and more seamless travel corridor through Atal Setu. It will significantly benefit students, working professionals, and those commuting between Mumbai and Pune, making it easier to live in one city and work or study in the other,” said Sanjay Mukherjee.

Once completed, the connector is expected to strengthen airport accessibility, ease congestion on existing routes and create a more efficient road link between Mumbai and Pune. The project is also anticipated to support economic activity across the region by improving connectivity to key infrastructure hubs and emerging growth corridors.
