Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde has directed developers to complete housing and redevelopment projects within three years, warning that firms failing to meet deadlines or maintain construction quality may not be considered for future government projects.
Shinde announced while handing over keys to beneficiaries of a redevelopment project in Thane’s Majiwada area on Sunday. During the event, he emphasised the state government’s commitment to speeding up redevelopment by removing administrative hurdles and ensuring timely execution of long-pending housing schemes.
Highlighting the government’s approach, Shinde said developers would be expected to adhere to strict timelines, with project delivery and quality standards becoming key factors in awarding future contracts. The move is aimed at improving accountability and preventing delays that often affect redevelopment projects across the state.
“Owning a home is a matter of dignity and security, and every family deserves a quality home. A home is not just four walls but a place of love, happiness and a family’s dreams,” Shinde said, adding that fulfilling citizens’ aspirations of home ownership remains a top priority for the Maharashtra govt.
He further stated that after taking charge of the housing portfolio, the government placed the completion of stalled housing and redevelopment projects at the top of its agenda. According to Shinde, efforts are underway to simplify approval processes and remove procedural obstacles so that projects can be completed more efficiently.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the progress of cluster redevelopment projects across Maharashtra, noting that work in Thane’s Wagle Estate is nearing completion. He reiterated the government’s vision of transforming Mumbai and Thane into slum-free cities through planned redevelopment while ensuring that residents receive quality housing.
The state government believes that faster project execution, combined with stricter monitoring of developers, will help accelerate urban renewal, improve housing delivery and provide better living conditions for thousands of families awaiting redevelopment across Maharashtra.
