Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that the MumbaiDelhi Expressway will be completed and fully operational within the next two years. He also unveiled highway projects worth nearly Rs 16,500 crore aimed at improving road connectivity in Rajasthan’s Kota region.

Addressing a public gathering in Mandana after reviewing the progress of the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway and the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve Tunnel, Gadkari said that around 75–80% of the Rs 1.10 lakh crore expressway has already been completed.

“The expressway still needs improvement. I give you my word that within two years the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be fully completed, enabling people to travel by car from Delhi to Nariman Point and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port within about 12 hours,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

The minister also announced the construction of a 10-km four-lane Mukundara Bypass on National Highway-52 between Kota and Jhalawar. The Rs 551 crore project is expected to begin within the next three months and is aimed at improving traffic flow in the region.

In another major announcement, Gadkari said the Centre has approved a Rs 1,000 crore greenfield spur road connecting Kota to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway through Alantpura. The proposed 21-km link road is also scheduled to enter the construction phase in the coming months.

Looking ahead, the Union minister outlined plans for the proposed Rs 15,000 crore Atal Express Highway, which will connect Kota and Etawah along the Chambal River corridor. Previously known as the Chambal Express Highway, the ambitious project is currently in the detailed planning stage.

Additionally, authorities have begun preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for another road project linking Bhawani Mandi with the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.

The proposed highway projects are expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve travel efficiency and support economic development across Rajasthan while enhancing access to one of India’s largest expressway corridors.
