MHADA Konkan Board To Offer Up To 8,000 Homes In MMR Housing Lottery Next Month

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) Konkan Board is preparing to launch its upcoming housing lottery, offering around 7,000 to 8,000 homes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The lottery is expected to open for applications within the next one-and-a-half to two months and will include affordable housing units from both MHADA projects and private developer schemes.

According to Konkan Board Chief Officer Dr Vishal Rathod, preparations are underway to finalise details of the housing units before announcing the lottery. The homes will be spread across four municipal corporation areas within the MMR, catering to homebuyers looking for affordable housing options amid rising property prices.

The upcoming lottery will include nearly 3,000 homes from private developer projects under the 20% housing scheme. The Board is currently collecting information about completed housing projects before preparing the final list of available homes.

MHADA homes have traditionally attracted strong demand as they are generally priced around 20 to 40% lower than prevailing market rates. The inclusion of privately developed units under the 20% scheme has further increased interest among applicants. Due to high demand, MHADA often receives more than 50 applications for every private project home offered through its lottery system.

The Konkan Board covers key growth areas of the MMR, including Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Vasai-Virar. These regions have witnessed rapid residential development due to improved connectivity and large-scale infrastructure projects such as metro corridors and other transport initiatives.

With limited land availability in Mumbai and continuously increasing property prices, peripheral areas of the MMR have emerged as important housing destinations. The upcoming lottery is expected to provide opportunities for middle-class families seeking homes at relatively affordable prices.

The Konkan Board witnessed significant participation in its previous lotteries. Last year, the first lottery offering 5,285 homes received around 1.16 lakh applications, while the second lottery for 2,030 homes attracted over 24,000 applications, reflecting continued demand for MHADA housing schemes.
