Central Railway (CR) has announced an 11-day special traffic block at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) from August 4 to August 14 to carry out key infrastructure upgrades and yard modification works. During the block, two long-distance trains will be short-terminated at Thane.
The traffic block will remain in force from 8 am on August 4 until 8 am on August 14. According to Central Railway, the works include the completion of a new shunting neck, modifications to the sick siding and maintenance yards, extension of pit lines in the maintenance section, and diversion of water supply, drainage and stormwater pipelines.
The project will affect the sick collection line, washing pit lines 6, 7 and 8, stabling line number 5, and C&W sick lines 1, 2, 3 and 4.
As a result of the block, Train No. 12154 Rani Kamlapati–LTT Express, scheduled to commence its journey on August 7, will terminate at Thane instead of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. Similarly, Train No. 16346 Thiruvananthapuram–LTT Netravati Express, operating between August 3 and August 13, will also be short-terminated at Thane.
Central Railway said the traffic block is necessary to facilitate infrastructure modernisation and improve operational safety. Passengers have been advised to check the revised schedules and make travel arrangements accordingly.
Separately, Central Railway will also operate a mega block on its Main Line and Harbour Line on Sunday, August 2, to undertake essential engineering and maintenance work on Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
During the block, fast local train services on the Main Line between Matunga and Mulund will be diverted to the slow corridor. Down fast trains departing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 10.36 am and 3.10 pm, and up fast trains leaving Thane between 11.03 am and 3.38 pm, will run on the slow lines before rejoining the fast corridor beyond the affected section.
Railway officials said the diverted suburban services are expected to be delayed by approximately 15 minutes. The maintenance work is aimed at enhancing the safety, reliability and efficiency of Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
