Mumbai has entered the global list of leading workcation destinations, emerging as the only Indian city featured in the 2026 Work from Anywhere Index released by International Workplace Group (IWG).
The city secured a score of 77, placing it ahead of global destinations such as London and Miami. Bangkok topped the fourth edition of the index with 106.5 points, followed by Tokyo at 96.5 and Barcelona at 95.5. Porto and Vancouver completed the top five. Other cities featured in the rankings included Budapest, Naples, Medellin, Lisbon and Seoul.
The annual index evaluates cities on several factors that influence the experience of professionals working remotely while travelling. These include climate, internet connectivity, accommodation, transport, food, cultural offerings and access to coworking and flexible workspace facilities.
IWG said the growing adoption of work-from-anywhere policies, supported by hybrid working models and an expanding global network of flexible workspaces, is contributing to increased demand for destinations where professionals can combine work with travel.
“Mumbai’s inclusion in the 2026 Index reflects the maturing of India’s remote-work infrastructure and the city’s growing appeal as a destination for professionals,” IWG said in its report released on Monday.
Mumbai performed particularly well in categories such as transport costs, access to coworking and flexible workspaces, climate and accommodation. These factors helped the city secure its position among the world’s prominent workcation locations.
However, Mumbai received comparatively lower scores for broadband speed and quality, the availability of local events and its happiness index. These areas could influence the city’s ability to compete more strongly with established international workcation destinations.
According to IWG, successful workcation cities need to provide more than attractive leisure options. They must also combine reliable working infrastructure with cultural experiences, connectivity and convenient living arrangements.

The ranking highlights Mumbai’s growing appeal among professionals seeking destinations that allow them to maintain their work routines while experiencing the city’s business, cultural and lifestyle offerings.
