The Maharashtra government has approved a Rs 1,722.40 crore four-lane road connector linking the under-construction Swatantryaveer Savarkar Sea Link with Bandra West and Pali Hill.
The proposed 3.55-km connector, planned with two lanes in each direction, will run near Bandra Fort, opposite Hotel Taj Lands End. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will undertake the project as an extension of the sea link, also known as the Versova-Bandra Sea Link.
Of the sanctioned amount, Rs 1,183.79 crore has been allocated towards civil construction, while the remaining funds will cover allied works, provisions and GST.
The new road is expected to provide motorists with an additional access route to Bandra West, particularly towards Pali Hill and the area between Bandra Fort and Taj Lands End. It is also aimed at easing pressure on existing roads connecting the sea link toll plaza with the western suburbs.
According to project documents, the approximately 2.6-km stretch between the toll plaza and Pali Hill can take 20 to 30 minutes during periods of heavy congestion. Most of the existing roads along this route currently have only one lane in each direction, limiting their ability to handle increasing traffic volumes.
The proposed connector will therefore increase road capacity and improve traffic movement in the area. The total length of 3.55 km includes ramps and loops forming part of the alignment.
The project was proposed after Cabinet Minister and Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Adv Ashish Shelar sought the inclusion of the connector in the ongoing sea link project.
MSRDC had submitted the proposal to the Public Works Department at Mantralaya on August 19, 2024. The Maharashtra government subsequently issued a Government Resolution on July 28, 2026, formally approving the project.
The connector is expected to strengthen east-west connectivity in Bandra and provide a wider, more efficient approach towards Pali Hill once completed.
