MMRDA Allocates BKC Plots To SEBI, NSE & ED For Expansion

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has handed over land parcels in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to three major financial and regulatory institutions — the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and the Mumbai Zonal Office of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

The handover took place during the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The move is aimed at providing the organisations with additional space to expand their operations within one of Mumbai’s most important commercial districts.

Strengthening Mumbai’s Financial Hub

BKC has evolved into a major financial and corporate centre, hosting banks, stock market institutions, multinational companies, financial services firms and government agencies. The expansion of SEBI, NSE and ED facilities is expected to further increase the concentration of financial-sector activity in the district.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office said the development would support Mumbai’s position as a leading financial centre and reinforce the city’s importance within India’s broader financial and fintech ecosystem.

SEBI regulates India’s securities market, while NSE operates one of the country’s principal stock exchanges. The Directorate of Enforcement investigates financial and economic offences, including cases involving foreign exchange laws and money laundering.

Land to Support Institutional Growth

The allocation is intended to meet the organisations’ future space requirements as their activities and operational needs expand. However, the official announcement did not disclose the size of the individual plots, lease terms or other commercial conditions associated with the allotments.

The handover was part of the Global Fintech Fest 2026, which brings together policymakers, financial institutions, technology companies, investors and other participants from India’s fintech and financial-services ecosystem.

Senior representatives from the concerned organisations were present at the event.

The development comes as Mumbai continues to strengthen its position as a global financial and business destination. The presence of regulatory institutions, stock-market infrastructure and major financial organisations within BKC has already contributed to the district’s prominence.

Additional institutional land allocation could help consolidate this ecosystem by enabling key financial bodies to expand within the same business district rather than establishing operations across multiple locations.

For BKC, the latest land handovers represent another step in the district’s evolution from a commercial business hub into a more concentrated financial and regulatory centre, aligning with Maharashtra’s broader ambition to strengthen Mumbai’s role in India’s financial and fintech landscape.
