Andheri West Metro Station To Get Mumbai’s First Pod Hotel

Mumbai Metro's First Capsule Hotel

Passengers, tourists and business travellers visiting Mumbai could soon have an additional accommodation option at Andheri West Metro Station, with a modern pod hotel nearing completion at the station.

The capsule-style facility is being developed for commuters who need a place to rest during the day as well as those seeking an overnight stay. According to senior officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the hotel is expected to open within a month.

Compact Stay Option at Metro Station

The pod hotel is being developed by Snooze House, with construction work reportedly in its final stage. The facility will provide compact accommodation equipped with the basic amenities required for short-term stays.

The concept is expected to be useful for people arriving in Mumbai for work, tourists travelling through the city and passengers who may require a convenient place to rest without travelling far from a transport hub.

Located on the Dahisar-Andheri West Metro Line 2A, Andheri West is a busy transport location with access to several residential, commercial and entertainment districts.

The addition of an accommodation facility within the station premises could provide a new option for passengers looking for short stays in a centrally connected part of Mumbai.

MMRDA Expands Non-Fare Revenue Initiatives

The pod hotel is part of MMRDA’s wider effort to generate revenue from its Metro infrastructure beyond passenger fares.

Four Metro corridors are currently in operation under the authority’s network, including Metro Line 2A, Metro Line 7, Metro Line 9 Phase 1 and Metro Line 2B Phase 1. MMRDA has been leasing unused spaces within stations to retailers and businesses as part of this initiative.

Several commercial outlets have already started operating at Metro stations. A McDonald’s outlet is also expected to open, while Metro Books at Andheri West Metro Station has attracted passengers with books priced between ₹99 and ₹150.

More Commercial Spaces Planned

MMRDA is also conducting a tender process to lease additional spaces across the four operational corridors. Under the latest plan, around 527 more shops could be established within Metro station premises.

The pod hotel at Andheri West is among the projects drawing attention as the authority expands the range of services available inside its stations.

Convenience for Travellers

Unlike conventional hotels that require a separate journey from a railway station or airport, the pod hotel will be located directly within the Metro station environment.

The facility is expected to cater to short-duration rest, overnight stays and temporary accommodation, giving commuters another option in a busy part of the city.

With Andheri serving as a major transport and commercial hub, the addition of a pod hotel could further expand the range of amenities available to passengers while supporting MMRDA’s efforts to make its Metro stations commercially active spaces.

The facility is expected to open within the coming month, subject to completion of the remaining work and operational arrangements.
