Water supply across several parts of Navi Mumbai and two CIDCO nodes will be disrupted for 16 hours on October 6 and 7 as the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertakes multiple works at and around the Bhokarpada Water Treatment Plant.
According to an official civic notification, the Main Feeder Water Pipeline will remain shut from 10 am on Tuesday, October 6, until 2 am on Wednesday, October 7. The shutdown is required to carry out several maintenance and infrastructure-related works on the water supply network.
At the Bhokarpada plant, the civic body will install an MS plate to disconnect the channel of the 13.5 ML-capacity sump. New metering kiosks will also be installed at the treatment facility.
NMMC will additionally fit a flow meter on the 2,050-mm-diameter Morbe Main Feeder Water Pipeline near the Bhokarpada Water Treatment Plant. An 1,800-mm-diameter butterfly valve will also be installed on the same pipeline at CBD Sector 7.
Further valve installation work is planned in Vashi and Mahape. A 700-mm-diameter butterfly valve will be installed on a distribution pipeline linked to the Morbe Main Feeder Water Pipeline near Arenja Circle in Vashi. Another 900-mm-diameter butterfly valve will be fitted near Mahape.
The shutdown will affect water supply in Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe-Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli. Residents in Kharghar and Kamothe, which fall under CIDCO’s jurisdiction, will also experience the disruption.
Although the main shutdown is scheduled to end at 2 am on October 7, NMMC has warned that water pressure may remain low during both the morning and evening supply cycles that day.
The civic body has urged residents in the affected areas to conserve water, store sufficient quantities in advance and make appropriate arrangements for the temporary disruption. NMMC has also appealed for public cooperation while the planned water infrastructure works are carried out.
