Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is expanding its ground transportation services to improve connectivity across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region ahead of the winter flight schedule, running from October 25 to March 27.
The Adani Group-operated airport, which commenced operations last year, is strengthening its multimodal network with buses, taxis, autorickshaws, rental cars and inter-airport shuttle services. Overall ground transport capacity is being increased to 4,689 vehicles.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) launched its e-Shivai electric bus services on October 7, connecting NMIA with Dadar, Borivali and Pune. Fares are ₹170 for Dadar East, ₹210 for Borivali and ₹450 for Pune. Children below 12 and women travelling with a National Common Mobility Card are eligible for half-price fares. Routes to Thane and Nashik are planned by mid-November.
Bharat Taxi is scheduled to begin operations on October 10 with up to 40 vehicles. Meanwhile, Chalo Bus operates 21 daily services linking the airport with Marol, Bandra, Dadar and the World Trade Centre in Colaba. Prepaid taxis, autorickshaws and app-based services, including Uber Go, Uber Premier and Uber Auto, are also available.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport operates seven dedicated routes connecting the airport with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar and the Airport Project Office. Services between Belapur and Nerul run every 15–20 minutes during peak hours, with additional connections planned.
Passengers can also use a complimentary hourly shuttle connecting NMIA with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), operated by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo.
The airport is accessible through suburban railway stations at Panvel, Targhar and Bamandongri, alongside major road links such as Atal Setu, the Sion-Panvel Highway and Palm Beach Road. Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is operational, while the proposed Metro Line 8 is expected to connect the two airports.
NMIA is also working with Adani TotalEnergies Gas to accelerate the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
