Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is expanding its ground transportation facilities with electric bus services, a free inter-airport shuttle and additional taxi options as it prepares for the upcoming winter flight schedule. The expansion aims to improve access to the airport from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and other regional destinations.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) launched its e-Shivai electric bus services from NMIA on October 7. The buses connect the airport with Dadar, Borivli and Pune, with fares fixed at Rs 170 for Dadar East, Rs 210 for Borivli and Rs 450 for Pune. Children below 12 years and women using a National Common Mobility Card are eligible for half-price tickets.
The Dadar service travels through Sion and Atal Setu, while the Borivli route links the airport with Mumbai’s Terminal 1, Bandra and Atal Setu. Bus connections to Thane and Nashik are also planned by mid-November, further widening the airport’s regional transport network.
Passengers will also have access to a complimentary shuttle running every hour between NMIA and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo will operate these services. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) runs seven dedicated airport routes connecting Terminal 1 with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar and the Airport Project Office.
Taxi options are also being expanded. Bharat Taxi is scheduled to begin operations on October 10 with a fleet of up to 40 vehicles. Uber Go, Uber Premier and Uber Auto will also serve airport passengers.
Operated by Adani Airport Holdings, NMIA is increasing its overall ground transport capacity to 4,689 vehicles and services. This includes 3,787 app-based taxis, 184 rental cars, 171 autorickshaws and 547 buses.
The airport has also upgraded directional signage and marked dedicated zones for buses, shuttles, arrivals and departures. The winter flight schedule will run from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027, making improved surface connectivity an important part of the airport’s preparations for the season.
